Postdoctoral Fellow - Cancer and Metabolism Translational Science
Thomas Jefferson University
Job Description
Position Description: The Simone Laboratory in the Radiation Oncology Department at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital in Philadelphia, PA is seeking an outstanding post-doctoral fellow to work in the area of cancer, diet, metabolic reprogramming and radiation biology. The overarching goal of our research is to increase sensitivity of tumors with a poor response to standard therapies. To accomplish this, the lab uses diet and metabolic reprogramming to alter cell metabolism via signaling pathways to increase cancer cells’ vulnerability to cytotoxic therapy. Through our studies, we have found new methods for treating tumors, which has led to the development of innovative clinical trials. This NIH funded position will focus on in vitro and in vivo preclinical models and also analysis of clinical trial samples to understand how metabolic interventions can improve cancer outcomes.
Experience Required: The candidate must be highly motivated, independent and interested in our projects. The candidate must have PhD in molecular biology, cell biology or a cancer related field. The ideal candidate will preferably have some experience with in vivo tumor experiments, molecular biology, microRNA and radiation biology are also a plus. In addition, qualified candidates must be able to independently generate hypotheses, design and carry out experiments to test the hypothesis, analyze data and have strong verbal and written communication skills to be able to present results in the form of presentations, abstracts, and manuscripts. The successful candidate will have mentoring so that career goals can be achieved and will join a highly interactive, collaborative and interdisciplinary team of researchers. Preference will be given to individuals with these skill sets who are now completing their thesis work or in the first few years of their current postdoctoral fellowship and have at least one high-impact publication.
Additional Information: Please send a cover letter, curriculum vitae with full bibliography and a statement of research interests to: Nicole Simone, MD; Department of Radiation Oncology, Thomas Jefferson University Hospital; nicole.simone@jefferson.edu
