Postdoctoral Research Fellows
Job description
Faculty of Health and Life Sciences
Two roles are available with a total of 1.2FTE and we are open to appointing people part-time or full-time.
The post
The Faculty wishes to recruit two Postdoctoral Research Fellows for the SPOtting Cancer among Comorbidities (SPOCC) programme. This NIHR-funded programme is examining how pre-existing medical conditions put patients at higher risk of having a delayed cancer diagnosis and how an intervention could address this. The successful applicant will support the development and early feasibility testing of the intervention to reduce delays in cancer diagnosis for one or more patient group. They will conduct this part of the study using techniques such as intervention mapping, implementation frameworks, and logic models, and will also help to develop evaluation plans. They will conduct qualitative interviews or focus groups with patients and primary care clinicians for an early feasibility study of the intervention, analyse qualitative data, and write up findings. This role will also involve recruiting and engaging GP practices in the study, including site set-up, and collecting and analysing data on implementation factors such as recruitment, retention, dose, and reach.
The % FTE of the posts is flexible, depending on the applicants either one full- and one part-time post, or two part -time posts, will be offered. The posts are available from 1 Mar 2024 to 28 Feb 2026.
About you
The successful applicants will be able to help design complex health interventions and their evaluations, conduct qualitative research with clinicians and patients, and report research findings in presentations and journal articles. They will be able to work successfully within diverse research teams, coordinating work to meet deadlines, and work with stakeholder and PPI groups. They will be able to recruit and engage GP practices in research, and collect and analyse data on implementation factors such as recruitment, retention, dose, and reach. They will have skills in managing research and in working independently when required. Experience of primary care, cancer diagnosis, anxiety and depression and/or intervention development would be a significant advantage in an application.
