Research Assistant/Associate in Computational Geomechanics (Fixed Term)

Description

A position exists, for a Research Assistant/Associate in the Department of Engineering, to work on the development of numerical methods for solving coupled large deformation geotechnical problems.

The post holder will be located in West Cambridge, Cambridgeshire, UK.

The role will entail: (i) development of approaches to the solution of coupled geotechnical problems that are capable of simulating large deformations; (ii) implementation of complex constitutive models into the developed numerical approach; and (iii) contribution to the supervision of a group of PhD students working on related problems.

The skills, qualifications and experience required to perform the role are:

Knowledge of numerical approaches suitable for the solution of coupled large deformation problems in geomechanics

Knowledge of the implementation of complex constitutive models in such methods

Good writing and presentation skills

Good verbal and non-verbal communication skills

Good time management skills

A strong work ethic and a positive attitude are essential

Track record of authoring high quality academic publications

Appointment at Research Associate level is dependent on having a PhD. Those who have submitted but not yet received their PhD will be appointed at Research Assistant level, which will be amended to Research Associate once the PhD has been awarded.

Salary Ranges: Research Assistant: £27,116 - £31,406 Research Associate: £33,309 - £40,927

Fixed-term: The funds for this post are available for 12 months in the first instance.
