Postdoctoral Researcher position - Levenson lab ( Cancer Biology, CVM, PH 130 -Post campus).

Research Area: Novel interceptive strategies for chemoprevention and therapy of prostate cancer. Cancer biology lab at CVM is looking for a highly motivated post-doc to work on a project involving novel chemopreventive and therapeutic approaches in prostate cancer in both humans and animals. Our lab focuses on a variety of research topics related to cancer prevention using natural bioactive compounds as well as novel combinatorial chemo and immunotherapies for more advanced disease. This includes interests in understanding molecular mechanisms of cancer progression from premalignant to malignant phase using both cancer cell cultures and preclinical mouse models. We are interested in developing targeted approaches with the goal of improving efficacy of treatments while reducing toxicities - this brings us closer to precision medicine. We study prostate cancer progression in transgenic mouse models and in xenografts with the emphasis on both premalignant and castrate- resistant/metastatic stages of prostate cancer. This post-doc position will focus on developing next-generation of interceptive approaches and identification of novel prognostic/predictive biomarkers with the goal of translating these strategies into clinical application.

Responsibilities:

Human prostate cancer cell cultures and viral transduction

Canine prostate cancer cell cultures and vital transduction

In vitro cell proliferation, cell viability, protein expression, mRNA expression, ELISA, flow cytometry, apoptosis

siRNA/shRNA and gene transfer

Generation and maintenance of tumor cell lines tagged with luciferase/fluorescence

Mouse handling, colony propagation, various injections, survival and non- survival surgery, harvesting organs, blood collection

Transgenic models: breeding, genotyping

Xenograft models: maintaining, non-invasive imaging using IVIS equipment

Tissues: histology and Immunohistochemistry

Blood: serum/plasma - ELISA, qRT-PCR

Analyzing and publishing data

Qualifications:

PhD, MD/PhD, or MD completed in cancer biology, immunotherapy, pharmacology or related fields

Excellent verbal and written communication skills

Publication record

Experience will mammalian cell culture and aseptic techniques is essential

Experience with mouse handling and procedures is required

Experience with routine molecular biology/biochemical techniques is required

Experience with retroviral/lentiviral human cancer cell transduction methods is preferred

Experience with immunological procedures is advantageous, but not required
