Postdoc Position in New Single-Molecule Proteomics Methods 90 %

The Laboratory of Chemical and Biological Probes (Prof. Rivera-Fuentes) is looking for a postdoctoral researcher to work on the development of a new method for single-molecule protein identification. We recently demonstrated a new method (called “blinkognition”) to identify peptides with single- molecule resolution. You can learn about this method by reading our recent paper and also by watching this simple explainer video. The goal of the project is to extend this technique to full-length, folded proteins.

Your responsibilities

As a postdoc working on this project, you would express and purify proteins, label them using a variety of bioconjugation strategies, immobilize them onto a glass surface, perform single-molecule fluorescence measurements using a TIRF microscope, and analyze their traces using our recently developed deep- learning model. You would also develop new analysis pipelines in collaboration with a machine learning specialist in our lab. Additionally, you would be an active member of our lab, contributing to routine lab maintenance, participating in group meetings and in selected teaching/outreach activities. You would also write reports and papers, and prepare presentations for national and international conferences.

Your profile

Highly motivated scientist with a solid background in chemistry, biochemistry, or biophysics. Strongly interested in developing new technologies to analyze proteins with single-molecule resolution and revolutionize the field of proteomics. Previous experience in protein chemistry, single-molecule imaging, and/or machine learning is an advantage. PhD degree in chemical/physical/biological science and proficiency in oral and written English are formal requirements.

We work on the development of probes to visualize and control biological processes in living systems. World-class infrastructure is available in our lab, the department, or at technology platforms of the University of Zurich. We are located at University of Zurich, Irchel campus, where you would work in one of the newest and most modern chemistry buildings in Europe.
