Fixed Term/Full Time for 12 Months

Grade 7: £34,308 - £42,158

Applications are invited for a postdoctoral research scientist to join the laboratory of Professor GeroMiesenboeck to work on a project entitled Potassium Channels, Sleep and Epilepsy. The project will seek to understand why we need to sleep and what drives sleep by studying genetically modified mouse lines and their sleep phenotypes as well as underlying mechanisms.

The successful applicant will hold either a PhD or MD in Biological Sciences or Medicine with a thesis in the realm of molecular biology or neuroscience. You will have sufficient specialist knowledge in neurophysiology and neurology/epilepsy, have technical expertise in electrophysiology and neurophysiological data analysis, have lab experience in molecular and cell biology, chemistry including optical methods and extensive experience in immunostaining techniques and imaging.

You will be able to manage your own academic research and administrative activities, adapt existing and develop new scientific techniques and experimental protocols, contribute ideas for new research projects, use specialist equipment and collaborate in the preparation of scientific reports and journal articles and occasionally present papers and posters.

The post will be based in the Centre for Neural Circuits and Behaviour, Tinsley Building, Mansfield Road, Oxford.
