Postdoctoral Researcher in Food Systems

We are seeking a postdoctoral researcher to work on a project on the connections between food production and consumption at subnational scales. This is an exciting opportunity to join a new multi-disciplinary research team on food systems analysis jointly based at the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine and the Environmental Change Institute. The types of question we will seek to answer are ‘what are the environmental and health impacts of food production and consumption at detailed geographical scales', ‘what are the economic costs of those impacts', and ‘how can the impacts and costs be integrated into decision-making'.

The successful candidate will have the opportunity to conduct detailed food systems analyses across various geographical and sociodemographic domains. You will contribute to developing a global food systems model with sub-national detail that connects food production and the associated environmental impacts with food consumption and the associated health impacts. You will also have the opportunity to link food systems data to health, environmental, and economic assessments, and contribute to analyses of food-related health and environmental impacts and policies.

You must hold, or be close to completion of a PhD/DPhil in a relevant field (e.g., data science, geography, environmental science, public health, economics). You will have experience in food systems modelling and relevant technical knowledge (e.g., in input-output modelling, applied economic modelling, environmental/ecological assessments), as well as proficiency in data analysis and coding. Your writing and communication skills allow you to interact effectively with different academic communities.
