About the Kwok-Kin Wong, MD PhD Laboratory:

The Wong laboratory is a translational oncology laboratory at the Perlmutter Cancer Center, whose goal is to improve the outcomes of lung cancer patients. The lab focuses on advancing the understanding of genetic and tumor immune alterations involved in lung tumorigenesis and pathogenesis. The Wong laboratory has been instrumental evolving lung cancer into a genetically stratified disease and changing how lung cancer patients are treated. The laboratory has pioneered generating and utilizing genetically engineered mouse lung cancer models to validate oncogenic drivers and test novel therapeutics against specific genetic oncogenic drivers. These preclinical models are now being used to lead the next revolution in lung cancer treatment through the combined assessment of genetics and tumor immunology. The Wong laboratory is highly collaborative and works with numerous premier academic investigators and pharmaceutical companies to discover and delineate the clinical path for novel therapeutic agents. The laboratory publishes in high-impact journals such as Nature, Nature Medicine and Cancer Cell. Recent postdoctoral fellows trained in the Wong laboratory are now investigators at numerous academic institutions, biotech and pharmaceutical companies.

Job Summary

Working with leading academic clinicians and basic scientists, the successful candidate will do ground breaking work to elucidate fundamental understanding of the molecular underpinnings of lung cancer. The successful candidate will do pioneering work on the interplay of genetics, tumor immune infiltrate and therapeutics in preclinical lung cancer models, with the ultimate goal of developing rational treatment hypotheses to be tested in the clinic.

This work will generate understanding of drug mechanism of actions and development of novel treatments / combinations, novel biomarkers and identify new targets for novel therapeutics. The successful candidate will also effectively communicate their work by writing manuscripts and successfully publishing their results in premier journals.

Job Qualifications

•Recent Ph.D. graduate in the immune-oncology field.

•Experience with molecular biology, genomic analysis, biochemistry & cell biology, In-vivo pharmacology, immunology experience, multi-flow cytometry, cell culture experience

•Preferred experience with in vivo syngeneic mouse tumor models; experience with 3D cell culture

•Experience in the isolation and characterization of immune cells from primary human and mouse tissues

•Demonstrated scientific rigor, scientific excellence, and technical excellence

•Independent, self-motivated and innovative

•Proven track record in the field of immunology/tumor immunology and/or oncology, with relevant publications

•Excellent written and oral communication skills

•Willing to seek out grant funding from external sources in support of their independent research and may participate in writing grant proposals

•Outstanding interpersonal skills, strong work ethic & organizational skills

•Ability to work productively & constructively in a team environment

•Ability to excel in a goal-oriented, multifaceted and fast-moving team environment
