The Centre for Mental Health aims to improve mental health and mitigate the impact of mental illness at a population level. It does this through high quality, collaborative, interdisciplinary research, academic teaching, professional and community education, and mental health system development.

About the Role A post-doctoral researcher is required to work on projects funded by a Million Minds Mission Mental Health Research Grant for ‘Growing Minds Australia (GMA): A National Trials Strategy to Transform Child and Youth Mental Health Services'. GMA is supporting two flagship studies conducted under the direction of its Mental Health Literacy, Action and Stigma sub- committee. The first of these studies is a national survey to benchmark levels of mental health literacy and action strategies in parents, youth (from 12 years) and teachers. The second is a trial examining the efficacy of Mental Health First Aid training delivered in primary schools to teachers and parents.

In a typical week at work, you may:

Design measures for parents' teachers' and health professionals' to test their child mental health literacy and child mental health first aid intentions and behaviours in collaboration with GMA investigators

Submit ethics applications

Collect validation data across a range of settings

About You

You are an early career academic with a record of peer-reviewed publications, particularly in the area of mental health. Your interpersonal and communication skills allow you to work collaboratively in a team environment to meet project goals within agreed deadlines, and you value diversity, able to tailor your approach to individuals.

Ideally, you will further have:

PhD or near completion of PhD in a relevant area (e.g. psychology, public health) or equivalent professional qualification

Strong data analysis and psychometric skills

A high level of academic writing skills
